    8:00 PM-9:00 PM
    05/09/2017

Beach Park Loop, Bakersfield, CA, United States

Beach Park Loop, Bakersfield, CA, United States

Date: Tuesday, May 9th, 8:00 PM

    Location: Beach Park

About: Join us for a family-friendly, all-ages cruise starting at Beach Park and following the bike path to the Marketplace. The ride is finished once the group reaches the Marketplace, so make sure you have a plan to get back to where you started! Some like to park at the Marketplace and ride to Beach Park prior to the start of the ride so they may enjoy the rest of the evening without having to ride back.

FYI: California Vehicle Code requires bicyclists under age 18 to wear a helmet. The vehicle code also requires bicycles to have a front facing headlamp and at least a red rear facing reflector when being ridden at night. Its not only the law, but a great way to keep yourself safe!

  • Ride of Silence 2017
    6:30 PM-8:00 PM
    05/17/2017

9000 Ming Avenue, Bakersfield, CA, United States

9000 Ming Avenue, Bakersfield, CA, United States

On May 17, 2017 at 7:00 PM, the Ride of Silence will traverse and unite the globe as nothing before it. Cyclists will take to the roads in a silent procession to honor cyclists who have been killed or injured while cycling on public roadways. Although cyclists have a legal right to share the road with motorists, the motoring public often isn’t aware of these rights, and sometimes not aware of the cyclists themselves.

The Ride of Silence is a free ride that asks its cyclists to ride no faster than 12 mph, wear helmets, follow the rules of the road and remain silent during the ride. There are no national sponsors and no registration fees. The ride, which is held during National Bike Month, aims to raise the awareness of motorists, police and city officials that cyclists have a legal right to the public roadways. The ride is also a chance to show respect for and honor the lives of those who have been killed or injured.

We will meet at The Marketplace by the fountain in front of the movie theater. Please arrive at 6:30pm for the pre-ride ceremonies and the ride will depart promptly at 7:00pm. The ride is about 8 miles long and will hold a 10-12mph pace.

Today is the day to leave your car in the driveway.  Make the extra effort to pedal to work instead of drive.  Take clean clothes with you on Thursday or pack a backpack on Friday.  A towel, some deodorant, clean clothes, and a few minutes in the bathroom and you’ll be ready for the day!

Don’t forget to visit the Bike Bakersfield commuter support stands located at CSUB/bikepath, Beach Park/bikepath, and Baker & Sumner Streets for refreshments in the morning from 6-9am!
