Join us for a fun filled overnight bike camping trip at Kern River Campground May 5-6!

We will be heading out on our adventure from Beach Park at 2 pm on Saturday May 5th. The ride is 13 to 15 miles depending on the route we take. There will be opportunities for fun, friendships, river floating, bike rides, camping, and BBQ. We will leave the campground by 12 pm on Sunday May 6th.

Camping with us will require a $5 fee. The Kern River Campground charges for their sites, and we have a limited number of spaces open. Paying your camping fee will reserve your spot. You do have the option of joining us at the Kern River Campground by reserving your own site. If you want to join in on our food option we will be preparing snacks, dinner, and breakfast for $20. If you would like to ride with us and can’t take your gear on your bike, we can transport your gear for a $10 fee. Choose your options below and we will follow up with you for payment. Current Bike Bakersfield members will receive a discount on the listed prices.

Communal meals will be prepared by the group. Trust me, it will be scrumptious.

Everyone is encouraged to ride their bike to school for National Bike To School Day! To register your school or find tips on how to build your event, go to http://www.walkbiketoschool.org/learn-more/about-the-events/about-bike-to-school-day/ They even have downloadable fliers and banners for your school!

    About Bike To School Day

The first-ever National Bike to School Day took place on May 9, 2012, in coordination with the League of American Bicyclists’ National Bike Month. Almost 1,000 local events in 49 states and the District of Columbia joined together to encourage children to safely bicycle or walk to school.

The event builds on the popularity of Walk to School Day, which is celebrated across the country – and the world – each October. Many communities and schools have been holding spring walk and bicycle to school events for years. National Bike to School Day provides an opportunity for schools across the country to join together to celebrate and to build off of the energy of National Bike Month.

On May 15, 2019 at 7:00 PM, the Ride of Silence will traverse and unite the globe as nothing before it. Cyclists will take to the roads in a silent procession to honor cyclists who have been killed or injured while cycling on public roadways. Although cyclists have a legal right to share the road with motorists, the motoring public often isn't aware of these rights, and sometimes not aware of the cyclists themselves.

National Bike Month includes an ever-expanding diversity of events in communities nationwide — but the biggest day of the month is Bike to Work Day. In 2019, Bike to Work Week will be May 13–19, with Bike to Work Day on Friday, May 17.

40% of all trips in the U.S. are less than two miles, making bicycling a feasible and fun way to get to work. With increased interest in healthy, sustainable and economic transportation options, it’s not surprising that, from 2000 to 2013, the number of bicycle commuters in the U.S. grew by more than 62 percent.

Hundreds of American communities have been successful in increasing bicycle commuting by providing Bike to Work Week and Bike to Work Day events.

Join us for a family-friendly, all-ages cruise starting at Beach Park and following the bike path to the Marketplace. Experience a gorgeous Bakersfield night Monday at 6:30 p.m. while feeling the wind blow as you peddle your bike with friends and family down Kern River Parkway Trail.

All ages and skill levels are encouraged to come. The ride is a comfortable, 10-12 mph pace and welcomes riders of all kinds.

Lights and helmets are strongly encouraged. The ride will follow the Kern River Parkway Trail west from Beach Park and turn South at CSUB, continue on the bike path through CSUB campus, and end at the Marketplace.

California Vehicle Code requires bicyclists under age 18 to wear a helmet. The vehicle code also requires bicycles to have a front facing headlamp and at least a red rear facing reflector when being ridden at night. It’s not only the law, but a great way to keep yourself safe.

The ride is finished once the group reaches the Marketplace, so make sure you have a plan to get back to where you started! Some like to park at the Marketplace and ride to Beach Park prior to the start of the ride so they may enjoy the rest of the evening without having to ride back.
