About Donating Blood From Houchin Community Blood Bank

In less than one hour, blood donors can save up to three lives. Blood Donation usually takes 30 to 45 minutes to give blood, from registration through snacks. It’s safe and simple!

To give blood, you must be 18 years or older and present a picture ID that shows date of birth. Sixteen and 17 year olds can donate with a Parental Consent for Minors form available at the following link: https://hcbb.com/how-to-donate/

Donors must weigh at least 110 pounds and feel healthy, with no cold or flu symptoms. There is a very short list of medicines which keep you from donating provided by the Food and Drug Administration. The Medication Deferral List is available at the following link: https://hcbb.com/how-to-donate/

If you have questions regarding your eligibility to donate blood, please call 661-323-4222 or toll free 1-877-364-5844.

Join us for a family-friendly, all-ages cruise starting at Beach Park and following the bike path to the Marketplace. Experience a gorgeous Bakersfield night at 7 p.m. while feeling the wind blow as you pedal your bike with friends and family down Kern River Parkway Trail.

All ages and skill levels are encouraged to come. The ride is a comfortable, 10-12 mph pace and welcomes riders of all kinds.

Lights and helmets are strongly encouraged. The ride will follow the Kern River Parkway Trail west from Beach Park and turn South at CSUB, continue on the bike path through CSUB campus, and end at the Marketplace.

The ride is finished once the group reaches the Marketplace, so make sure you have a plan to get back to where you started! Some like to park at the Marketplace and ride to Beach Park prior to the start of the ride so they may enjoy the rest of the evening without having to ride back.

California Vehicle Code requires bicyclists under age 18 to wear a helmet. The vehicle code also requires bicycles to have a front-facing headlamp and at least a red rear facing reflector when being ridden at night. It’s not only the law, but a great way to keep yourself safe.
