Need to Know Smart Cycling Course

04/14/2018 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM

Bike Bakersfield is hosting a Need To Know Smart Cycling Class on Saturday, April 14 from 12-2 p.m. Executive Director Jack Becker will lead the class, covering where to ride and how to manage traffic safely. The class information and structure is a condensed version of the League of American Bicyclists Smart Cycling class.

We will be riding on the streets downtown practicing the skills discussed after the safety presentation. You will need a helmet and a working bike for the class. If you need either of these, please come to Bike Bakersfield and we will get you fixed up!

Instead of paying for the course, participants are recommended to become a member of Bike Bakersfield. In addition to receiving the membership benefits, members will be allowed to take their smart cycling quick guides home to keep as a reference.

The class is free for Bike Bakersfield Members. You can become a Bike Bakersfield member here.

To register fill out the form found here. For more information contact Bike Bakersfield at 661-321-9247 or info@bikebakersfield.org.

    Date: Tuesday, October 23rd, 7 p.m.

    Location: Beach Park

About: Join us for a family-friendly, all-ages cruise starting at Beach Park and following the bike path to the Marketplace. The ride is finished once the group reaches the Marketplace, so make sure you have a plan to get back to where you started! Some like to park at the Marketplace and ride to Beach Park prior to the start of the ride so they may enjoy the rest of the evening without having to ride back.

FYI: California Vehicle Code requires bicyclists under age 18 to wear a helmet. The vehicle code also requires bicycles to have a front facing headlamp and at least a red rear facing reflector when being ridden at night. Its not only the law, but a great way to keep yourself safe!
