Project Light Up The Night

Bike Bakersfield and Bike Arvin are giving away free bike lights and helmets on Nov. 1, 8, 15, 23 and 29, from 6-8 p.m. to help riders stay safe and visible.

Your bike must be present to receive lights. Finalized locations will be announced before the event.

This yearly event is made possible by generous donations and sponsors. We are still in need of donations. Please consider donating to the project and help us deliver helmets and lights to our communities! Please comment or email specifying that your donation is for Project Light Up the Night and we will make sure all of your donation goes directly to this project. Thank you!

Join us for a family-friendly, all-ages cruise starting at Beach Park and following the bike path to the Marketplace. Experience a gorgeous Bakersfield night Monday at 6:30 p.m. while feeling the wind blow as you peddle your bike with friends and family down Kern River Parkway Trail.

All ages and skill levels are encouraged to come. The ride is a comfortable, 10-12 mph pace and welcomes riders of all kinds.

Lights and helmets are strongly encouraged. The ride will follow the Kern River Parkway Trail west from Beach Park and turn South at CSUB, continue on the bike path through CSUB campus, and end at the Marketplace.

California Vehicle Code requires bicyclists under age 18 to wear a helmet. The vehicle code also requires bicycles to have a front facing headlamp and at least a red rear facing reflector when being ridden at night. It’s not only the law, but a great way to keep yourself safe.

The ride is finished once the group reaches the Marketplace, so make sure you have a plan to get back to where you started! Some like to park at the Marketplace and ride to Beach Park prior to the start of the ride so they may enjoy the rest of the evening without having to ride back.
