Meet Our Team
Asha Chandy
Programs Director
Asha’s been on board since 2016 as programs manager, grant writer, and outreach coordinator. She graduated from UC Irvine in 2014 with degrees in Public Health Policy and Criminology, Law & Society. After moving back home to Bakersfield, Asha fell upon Bike Bakersfield while looking for a job in a local non-profit. Since then, she has taken to riding most road bikes (and falling), even finishing the Piccolo Fonda at the 2019 Tehachapi Gran Fondo. Asha is currently enrolled in the MPA Program at CSUB.
Jeff "Jay-Bird" Vigil
Shop Mechanic
Jay Bird has been a part of Bike Bakersfield since June 2020, when we reopened after the first coronavirus lockdown. Prior to Bike Bakersfield, Jay-Bird worked in the logging industry, construction, and is an experienced mechanic despite not working with bicycles specifically. Since he’s been at Bike Bakersfield, he’s been picking up any and everything possible, even dabbling in wheel truing and hydraulic disc brakes. Today, he’s an avid commuter and cyclist, riding a 29″ 10-speed mountain bike that he built and refurbished in the shop.
