It's Kern County Bike Month!

Get PUMPED for bikes and our great weather for National Bike Month! Taking place all over Kern County.

Bike Kern Scavenger Hunt

Bike Bakersfield and Kern County Public Works are hosting the third annual “Bike Kern County” – a self-guided scavenger hunt for cyclists of all levels and ages in celebration of National Bike Month.

Participants can explore Kern County’s best bike trails and places of interest while learning about bicycle safety for a chance to win great prizes from local bike shops. The scavenger hunt involves following clues, checking in at different GPS coordinates, scanning QR codes, watching video tutorials, and answering bicycle safety questions.

The most complete scavenger hunt will win a gift card to a local bike shop of their choosing, and other prize winners will be selected for best efforts, best photos, and best video submissions. Bike Kern County includes adventuring to some of the latest additions to the bike network in Kern County, including the new Kern River Parkway extensions from Lake Ming to Buena Vista Lake to Tehachapi’s Antelope Run Trail.

To participate, download the Scavify App to your mobile device, create a free account, register for either an English or Spanish hunt on BikeBakersfield.org, and check your email on May 6th to receive your hunt access code

Ride of Silence

Join us on Wednesday, May 17th, at Cafe Smitten for the International Ride of Silence. This event is held each year on the third Wednesday of Bike Month, to commemorate the lives lost to traffic violence.

We will meet at 6:30 PM at 909 18th Street, where we will read the names of cyclists we wish to remember, and recite the Ride of Silence poem. At 7:00 PM, Louis Bravos will lead the Ride of Silence, in unison with all Ride of Silence events in our time zone. Please bring lights in anticipation of sunlight ending before our ride ends.

The Ride of Silence is a free event. We ask that you ride no faster than 12 mph so that we can stay together as a group. Please wear your helmet at all times, follow the rules of the road, and remain silent during the ride
